The General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI) was established to extend the Saudi government's ongoing efforts to promote social security and ensure a dignified life for all members of society. As an independent government entity, GOSI is responsible for providing comprehensive social protection and insurance coverage to Saudi citizens and workers across all sectors, including civilian and military government employees, public and private sector workers, as well as a segment of citizens of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
GOSI was established under Royal Decree No. (M/22) dated 6/9/1389 AH (November 15, 1969). Since then, its insurance and social security regulations have continued to evolve to meet the Kingdom’s changing needs. In 1442 AH, the Council of Ministers issued Resolution No. (657), approving the merger of the Public Pension Agency with GOSI. The merger was intended to unify efforts, maximize capabilities, and enhance governance and service delivery under a single entity capable of meeting beneficiaries’ needs while keeping pace with future developments.
GOSI’s objectives are centered on ensuring a dignified standard of living for employees and their families after retirement, as well as in cases of disability or death. It is equally committed to enhancing quality of life by providing healthcare and the necessary compensation through the Occupational Hazards Branch for both Saudi and non-Saudi workers in cases of occupational injuries and disability. In addition, GOSI provides support to Saudi workers who leave employment due to circumstances beyond their control, alongside a broad range of insurance and social services designed to protect every individual in society, while promoting long-term stability and well-being.
